The 6th National Conference of Chinese Education Alliance for Simulation in Healthcare, Lanzhou, China 2025
At JoHS, we value a global reach in simulation practices. This recent conference in Lanzhou, Gansu province identified the extraordinary scale on which many simulation practices are implemented in China. Additionally, there were international guests to share experiences from their own research and practice. The conference theme was “AI reshapes the path of medical training: Virtual-real integration leads the innovation ecosystem of medical education”.
The JoHS Editor-in-Chief, Professor Debra Nestel was the first plenary speaker with her talk titled: Beyond the hype: Generative AI meets simulation-based education. She focused on how various AI tools can support the development of professionalism targeting clinical communication. She predicted a future in which OSCEs will no longer be considered a gold standard of skills-based assessments since there will be extensive performance data from simulation and real clinical settings unlike anything we currently use. Professor Yu Guangjum spoke about clinical decision support systems based on large language models.
The datasets which he works with reflect the population size of China. Professor Steven Yule presented his work in operating theatres on data driven approaches to improving patient safety followed by Professor Paul Phrampus who took a big picture view on the future of AI integration in healthcare simulation. Other national and international speakers offered plenary sessions and workshop activities. The conference was hosted by the Chinese Education Alliance for Simulation in Healthcare and organised by their Gansu Branch with The First Hospital of Lanzhou University and co-organised by Beijing Zhongwei Guopei Medical Research Institute.
