Susan Somerville has a joint academic appointment at the Dundee Institute for Healthcare Simulation & the Centre for Medical Education where she is lead for the simulation programs, pathways and modules. Her masters research explored simulation through a socio-material lens, and her PhD studies resulted in a realist review and realist evaluation of a national simulation intervention. She takes pleasure in supervising masters & PhD research students with qualitative research interests in simulation-based and health professions education.
Susan continually strives to create scholarly collaborations and nurture research opportunities with academic and clinical colleagues; and these pursuits have led to several published works and vibrant conference outputs. She has experience of diverse international collaborations working with & in partner institutions designing & delivering simulation faculty development courses & masters level curricula. Susan is a registered nurse, who specialised in intensive care working in the NHS in London & Scotland & in clinical education before pursuing an academic career.
